The Jungle Book

The Jungle Book: Disney is turning once again to a literary property in the public domain for inspiration. Justin Marks has been hired to write a new screen adaptation of Rudyard Kipling's The Jungle Book, though it's not known if the reboot will nod more to Disney's 1967 animated, family-friendly musical version or Disney's 1994 live-action action-romance version; the latter starred Jason Scott Lee as Mowgli, a "man cub" raised by wolves in the Indian jungle. Warner Bros. is already developing its own version of Kipling's fables. [The Hollywood Reporter]

Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.: In preparation for Comic-Con, which begins in San Diego next week, Marvel has dressed up the trolley system with advertising for its upcoming TV show Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., which will be broadcast by ABC this fall. The company is taking a rather minimal approach to its artwork, which, on the positive side, certainly leaves things open for where the series might go. [Marvel]

Alias: As long as we're talking about TV, let's also mention Cyrstal Nix-Hines, who formerly wrote for Alias and The Practice, has been nominated as a representative to UNESCO. Nix-Hines, an attorney, is not the first TV person heading into government under the administration of President Barack Obama; recall that Kal Penn (TV's House, but also the Harold and Kumar movies) served in the White House Office of Public Engagement and continues to juggle acting and political gigs. Lovelace Trailers: Amanda Seyfried stars as a fledgling porn actress with an abusive domestic partner in Lovelace, a drama by directors Rob Epstein and Jeffrey Friedman based on the life of Linda Lovelace, who became famous in the 1970s for Deep Throat. Two trailers have been released: the U.S. version is racy, while the U.K. version is much raunchier. Peter Stormare, Hank Azaria and James Franco (as Hugh Hefner) also star; the movie opens on August 9. [MovieClips / Hey U Guys UK]
