In a new article over at Forbes detailing Marvel's grand scheme as it relates to merchandising and expanding their brand, Marvel's Paul Gitter spoke about how excited they are that the Hulk is being received so well after they revamped the character for The Avengers (where he's played by Mark Ruffalo), and that if the character continues to do well they'll "spin him off to a stand-alone program next year, supported by a big budget franchise movie in 2015."
This goes against what we've heard from Kevin Feige so far in that he said there were no plans to bring back Hulk for a solo movie, alluding to the fact that he may be around for the next Avengers sequel, but two not-so-great films proved the character doesn't really have legs when it comes to a solo effort. However, the Hulk we're getting in The Avengers is far different from the version featured in the two previous live-action movies in that he's more fun and not as miserable. This Hulk is in control of his powers, and he's so much more entertaining to watch than what we've seen before.
We already know they're working on a Hulk TV show (in collaboration with Guillermo del Toro), and we'll have to see if that will turn into another Hulk movie in 2015. What we do know is that all of this is tied to how well the character sells -- both in terms of on screen and off, via merchandising. If you buy up all the Hulk stuff in stores and make some noise about how much you love this new version, chances are Marvel will hear you and the green guy could be back on the big screen sooner than we think.
Would you be down for another solo Hulk movie, or do you feel the character works best in an ensemble?
