Got the late Wednesday afternoon blahs? Here are a few new promotional pictures that should make your day a little brighter.

Hard to believe, but Christmas is right around the corner (only 136 more shopping days…), and with the holiday comes big movie releases. Paramount’s got a horse in this year’s race – Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol, which finds Tom Cruise reprising his role as super secret agent Ethan Hunt. The IMF team’s gone rogue in this outing, after they’re implicated in the bombing of the Kremlin. To help get you ready for the blockbuster, Paramount has released this brand new photo – featuring Tom Cruise looking all angry and brooding while the world burns in the background. We’re not sure about the whole hoodie thing, but it should be awesome to see the IMF gang back in action.

Not to be outdone, Warner Bros. has unveiled some images from their fall line-up. First up, here’s the latest still from A Very Harold & Kumar 3D Christmas. We think the photo here speaks for itself – especially since it tells us that Kal Penn and John Cho are back, and that they’ve brought good ol’ Neil Patrick Harris with them. The film, which features a holiday jaunt through NYC in search of a replacement Christmas tree instead of a journey to White Castle, is set for a November 4th release. We think you’ll agree that nothing quite says “yuletide joy” like another adventure with Harold and Kumar.

Finally, here’s a new still from the upcoming drama Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close. Tom Hanks headlines a cast that includes Sandra Bullock and Max von Sydow in this sure-to-be tearjerker from Stephen Daldry. The film focuses on young Oskar – who lost his father (Tom Hanks) in the September 11th terrorist attacks. When the young boy finds a mysterious key, he becomes convinced that it’s a clue from his father – and that finding the lock the key fits will reveal a final message from his departed dad. Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close is set to open in limited release on Christmas Day – meaning Warners almost assuredly has hopes that this title will generate awards buzz in early 2012. The synopsis sounds like a bit of a downer for a Christmas day release, but at least the picture of Hanks and young star Thomas Horn cavorting around promises a few light moments in what could be a very heavy and emotional film.
