'Lincoln' Trailer: Steven Spielberg and Daniel Day-Lewis Bring Abraham Lincoln Back to Life

Sep 13, 2012

The other day we saw a sliver of footage from Steven Spielberg's upcoming Lincoln, but now we get an entire trailer full of inspired Spielbergian images matched with what looks to be one of the year's best performances from Daniel Day-Lewis as our 16th President. The film, which hits theaters on November 9, will primarily focus on the last four months of Lincoln's life, as he looks to abolish slavery and unite a nation.

This definitely isn't the vampire-fighting action hero version of Lincoln we saw earlier this year; if anything, this is a somewhat somber Lincoln who's troubled because he may not have all the answers he wish he had. Those looking for an electric performance from Day-Lewis along the lines of his Oscar-winning turn in There Will be Blood may find one that's a bit more reserved and held back, as his version of Lincoln looks within himself and to those closest to him in an effort to solve the problems plaguing an ever-growing country.

In addition to Day-Lewis, the film costars Joseph Gordon-Levitt, David Strathairn, Sally Field, Tommy Lee Jones, Michael Stuhlbarg, Jackie Earle Haley, Walter Goggins and more. Watch the trailer below.

Steven Spielberg directs Joseph Gordon-Levitt in  “Lincoln,” a revealing drama that focuses on the 16th President’s tumultuous final months in office. In a nation divided by war and the strong winds of change, Lincoln pursues a course of action designed to end the war, unite the country and abolish slavery. With the moral courage and fierce determination to succeed, his choices during this critical moment will change the fate of generations to come.
