We’ve been looking forward to Tom Hooper’s Les Miserables since we first started learning who was in the cast, and today we get our first extended look at the fruit of Hooper’s labor with the arrival of this full trailer.
If you were worried about Hooper's decision to have Hugh Jackman and company sing their songs live on camera instead of the more traditional lip-syncing, fear not – everyone appears to have done a pretty amazing job. Yes, even Russell Crowe.
The retelling of the classic tale sticks to the traditional story and setting but updates things by utilizing a lot of handheld camerawork that appears to give it a sense of immediacy that was missing in the more standard takes. Hopefully this clip is indicative of the work as a whole – we’d hate to think of the finished product turning into something that looks like it was shot by Michael Bay – but we trust Hooper.
Have a peek at the newest telling of Jean Valjean’s tale and see what you think. Les Miserables opens on Christmas and features performances from Jackman, Crowe, Anne Hathaway, Sacha Baron Cohen, Eddie Redmayne and Helena Bonham Carter.
