... Chris Pratt! We've been waiting for casting announcements to start rolling in for Marvel's next big franchise, and after several actors tested for the part, word from Deadline is that Chris Pratt has landed the lead role of Peter Quill (aka Star-Lord) in a movie that will certainly test the limitations of this big-screen Marvel universe. Guardians of the Galaxy is definitely a fun franchise for fans, but how will audiences take to the outer space-set story and the eclectic set of characters (including a talking, gun-wielding raccoon)?
We know (and trust) director James Gunn with delivering a movie that's not unlike the other Marvel stories that have come before it. Expect a nice blend of comedy and action, with Pratt leading the charge. He's a good choice, too, and definitely one that fits with the Marvel mold. He's shown us a bulked-up bad boy in Zero Dark Thirty, and yet he's also a bit of a goofy charmer and extremely charismatic (Parks and Recreation, Bride Wars, Take Me Home Tonight). He's versatile, which is key, and he fits in nicely with a group of guys and girls who can deliver both the laughs and the punches.
Now for the money question: With Iron Man 3 still filming reshoots recently, does this mean we're going to see Peter Quill cameo at the end of Iron Man 3? We say yes, for sure. Marvel will want to introduce their next leading man at some point before Guardians hits theaters in August of 2014. With rumors that Tony Stark will be traveling to space in the next Iron Man movie all over the place, Pratt's appearance either at the end of the movie or in a post-credits scene makes complete sense.
Guess we'll see. For more on Guardians of the Galaxy, read our fantastic beginner's guide right here.
