Arnold Schwarzenegger will be on the big screen this Friday in The Expendables 2, but that's just a tiny role. The Governator's real return to action movies happens next year when he stars in The Last Stand. And while that's certainly reason enough to be excited for the film, it's actually not even the number one reason we've been eagerly waiting to get a look at it. That's because The Last Stand is the English-language debut of phenomenal South Korean director Jee-woon Kim.
Yes, the man behind the extremely brutal I Saw the Devil and the absurdly entertaining The Good, the Bad, the Weird is making the trip to Hollywood, and he's doing so with one of the biggest action stars that's ever lived.
We're nervous to see how it all turned out, but thankfully we've got our first glimpse at the trailer, which has calmed us a bit. We were worried Schwarzenegger might be too old to anchor a movie, but it looks like it's working to his advantage here. Like an even more pissed off version of Gran Torino, with even more explosions.
Head on over to Apple to check it out in full HD.
"Sheriff Owens is a man who has resigned himself to a life of fighting what little crime takes place in sleepy border town Sommerton Junction after leaving his LAPD post following a bungled operation that left him wracked with failure and defeat after his partner was crippled. After a spectacular escape from an FBI prisoner convoy, the most notorious, wanted drug kingpin in the hemisphere is hurtling toward the border at 200 mph in a specially outfitted car with a hostage and a fierce army of gang members. He is headed, it turns out, straight for Summerton Junction, where the whole of U.S. law enforcement will have their last opportunity to make a stand and intercept him before he slips across the border forever. At first reluctant to become involved, and then counted out because of the perceived ineptitude of his small town force, Owens ultimately accepts responsibility for the face off."
The Last Stand hits theaters January 18, 2013.
