Watch The Greatest Ending to a Movie ... Ever

Watch The Greatest Ending to a Movie ... Ever

Aug 12, 2011

We normally don't post endings to movies too often because who really wants the ending to a movie spoiled for them if they haven't watched it yet? We're making an exception with the ending to this movie, though, because a) it came out all the way back in 1982, and b) because it's the greatest ending to a movie ever. Why is it the greatest ending? Well, primarily because it's honest. So many films -- and especially films within this particular teen sex comedy genre -- come with a happy ending. Either the main character winds up with the love of their life, or they find redemption in some way, shape or form. Things just come full circle, and the hero gets what they want. The end.

And then there's The Last American Virgin. This early '80s teen sex comedy is full of fun, stupid scenes that would later inspire other, more well-known teen comedies. It features one of the most underrated soundtracks of its time (chock full of memorable 1980's music), and, like another popular teen comedy from that year (Fast Times at Ridgemont High), it also tackles the issue of abortion. Unlike Fast Times, though, The Last American Virgin doesn't end on the greatest note. After our hero spends most of the film idolizing this one girl and helping her through some of the toughest moments of her life, he shows up to a party with a ring, ready to profess his love to her. And then this happens ...

This film should be required viewing for every young teenager. Screw the classics, every high schooler should be forced to watch this in class at least once per year. What do you think?
