Producer on Lars von Trier's (AntiChrist, Melancholia) Nymphomaniac Peter Aalbæk Jensen recently spoke to Screen Daily and shared news about the upcoming film that will chronicle the sex life of a woman from birth to age 50. It was just confirmed that longtime Von Trier collaborator Charlotte Gainsbourg will be officially joining the cast, and now Jensen has more good news to add to the project.
"We are making two films. It is a big operation. I personally hope that we should be ready for Cannes next year. We will shoot both and edit both – and we want to finish both at the same time," he told the website. Color us excited.
The team is still going for a hardcore and softcore version of the tale. "We will probably blur the central points of the human body for the release worldwide but we will probably make one unblurred that will be for screening maybe in Cannes," Jensen also revealed. No other casting news was reported, but we do know that Stellan Skarsgard will be in the film as the man Gainsbourg's character shares her story with. Jensen did say there would be other "big names" appearing, which suits us just fine. In terms of shooting style, it looks like Von Trier will be sticking with what he knows. "Some will be Dogme hand-held and some will have very carefully made photography, crane shots and beautiful images. It will be very much mixed," Jensen confirmed.
Production is underway in Germany this summer, and can't get completed soon enough.
