Matthew Vaughn is no stranger to action movies. He gave the world the hyperviolent Kick-Ass and delivered X-Men: First Class, which was the refreshing kick the franchise needed to get back on track. And next up he's got Kingsman: The Secret Service, which turns Colin Firth into an action star. Yes, the stuttering, fancy fellow from The King's Speech can also kick a whole lot of ass, apparently. It's movie magic!
Firth stars as an old-school James Bond-esque spy who begins training his nephew, a hipper, more street-smart chap, in the family business. That sort of conflicting personalities setup has all the makings of a cheeky, '90s buddy action comedy, but as you can see from the film's first trailer, the payoff looks way cooler than it sounds on paper.
Kingsman: The Secret Service, directed by Matthew Vaughn from a script by Jane Goldman (X-Men: First Class) and based on a graphic novel by Mark Millar (Kick-Ass), hits theaters on October 24, 2014.
