'Kick-Ass' Star Chloe Moretz in Talks to Join Denzel Washington in 'The Equalizer'

Chloe MoretzIt’s been a while since we’ve heard any new news concerning the upcoming big-screen adaptation of cult television series The Equalizer, but today we’ve got a new casting update.

We’ve known for some time that Denzel Washington is set to star in the film – which will see him playing a former CIA agent dedicated to helping people in need – and that the project will reteam him with Training Day director Antoine Fuqua. However, today’s news reveals that the female lead of the film has been redesigned – so that it can be played by Kick-Ass starlet Chloe Moretz.

Deadline reports that Moretz did a reading with Washington, and their chemistry so impressed everyone in the room that the part is now hers if she wants it. While the original draft of the script featured a female prostitute in her 20s in a leading role, it will now be rewritten – giving the film a sort of Taxi Driver vibe.

The title, which is budgeted at $50 million, is being set up as a potential franchise for the ever-popular Washington. Edward Woodward played the lead character in the CBS series.

The Equalizer is set for release on April 11, 2014.
