Hatfields & McCoys

Now in his mid-50s, Kevin Costner is looking to come back into style, perhaps taking inspiration from the slightly older Liam Neeson. Costner (above, in the recent TV miniseries Hatfields & McCoys) is being “courted” by producer Luc Besson to play a dying government assassin who can still kick ass in the action-drama Three Days to Kill; he’s also been offered the chance to be Chris Pine’s mentor in the upcoming Jack Ryan reboot, to be directed by Kenneth Branagh. No decisions have been made on either role. [Deadline]

Sacha Baron Cohen’s last movie, The Dictator, was his lowest-grossing to date, but it still made more than $167 million worldwide, which means studios are eager to be in business with him. He’s sold his latest pitch, a James Bond spy spoof, to Paramount; he and writing partner Phil Johnston’s story would follow a spy and his “long-lost brother, a moronic soccer hooligan” as the two go on the run. It’s well-trod territory, but perhaps the comic has a new angle in mind. [Showblitz]

The sensational first trailer for Flight, starring Denzel Washington, certainly grabbed our attention, so it’s welcome news to hear that director Robert Zemeckis wants to further diversify his resume with the similarly-titled, but strikingly different crime film Taking Flight: The Hunt for a Young Outlaw. Based on the true story of Colton Harris-Moore, the so-called “Barefoot Bandit,” it follows a teen fugitive who eludes capture by the authorities and becomes a social media hero. What kind of career will Kristen Stewart forge, post-Twilight? She has a featured role in the upcoming indie drama On the Road, which debuted at Cannes to mixed reaction. The new U.K. trailer sells her as part of the ensemble, along with Garrett Hedlund, Sam Reilly, Kirstin Dunst and Viggo Mortensen; the film is due out in the U.S. on December 21. [MSN]
