Kathryn Bigelow Casts Her First Bin Laden Hunter; Tom Hardy, Rooney Mara, Idris Elba and Guy Pearce May Come Next
Nov 10, 2011
Jason Clarke is the kind of actor who has been around for over a decade and who has spent the last few years of his career appearing in increasingly larger capacities in increasingly higher profile films like Public Enemies, Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps and The Wettest County in the World (the new film from The Proposition director John Hillcoat). And though Clarke has some solid roles already on his horizon in addition to Hillcoat's County (including The Great Gatsby), it looks like he's hit his biggest break yet: He's the first person to be officially cast in Kathryn Bigelow's first film since The Hurt Locker.
Deadline tells us Clarke will be playing, "a terrorist hunter in the service of the U.S. efforts to hunt Bin Laden," which honestly doesn't tell us much considering Bigelow's untitled film, which re-teams her with Hurt Locker writer Mark Boal, is about the Seal Team 6 group that did eventually kill Osama Bin Laden. Regardless of whether he plays the guy who puts two rounds in Bin Laden's face or not, Clarke will most likely be in very good company. Mike Fleming's report further mentions that Bigelow and company are also considering A-game actors like Idris Elba, Rooney Mara, Guy Pearce, Jennifer Ehle and Tom Hardy for roles in the film. Time will tell if that ends up being the cast or not, but either way, we like where their head is at.
