Up until today, we've known very little about Jupiter Ascending, the Wachowski siblings first original film since The Matrix. Basically all we knew was that Mila Kunis and Channing Tatum had been offered leading roles in the film, which is set up at Warner Brothers. Today we know a little more. Well, to be more specific, Vulture thinks they know a little more.
The NYMag outlet says they have a source close to the production who has disclosed what the film, the first in a proposed trilogy, is actually about, and in typical Wachowski fashion, it's pretty out there.
The gist of it is the film takes place in a universe where human beings as we know them are not the pinnacle of evolution. There are other, higher tiers of life on other planets, each sharing a portion of DNA with us common Earthlings, and each keeping an eye on the goings on of our lowly planet. When the Queen of the Universe discovers that Mila Kunis' character, a maid on Earth, possesses her "same perfect genetic makeup" and thus poses a threat to her immortal reign, she dispatches a bounty hunter to take her out. That's who Channing Tatum will play.
That's just the general plot, though. Vulture has even more details on the world the Wachowskis are building, which involves other races having crossbred their DNA with animals to create highly specialized offshoots, just one example being a soldier crossbreed that gets "their fearlessness, strength, and a pack mentality from wolves."
Of course, this is all unconfirmed at this point, but the site at least trusts their source enough to run with it. It all sounds pretty wild, which is why we'd love to see it come to fruition. Our only big question at this point is a simple one, if Mila Kunis is genetically identical to the Queen of the Universe, does that mean she'll be playing two characters?
