Watch: Joss Whedon Profile Reveals First Footage From His Next Movie

Apr 30, 2012

Joss Whedon is already a big name among film buffs. We've long known him as the guy who wrote Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Alien: Resurrection, Serenity, and Toy Story. But now, thanks to The Avengers, he's about to reach a new stratosphere of recognition. And rightfully so, as he truly pulled off a seemingly impossible task in not only giving Iron Man, Captain America, Thor, Black Widow, Hawkeye and the Hulk equal importance in a superhero omnibus, but for also delivering one of the most action-packed last hours of a blockbuster in years.

That also means that fans of Whedon's lower-profile projects might be growing a little concerned that his massive success with a big screen Hollywood movie like The Avengers (and it will be massive; it's already grossed near $175 million and hasn't even opened in the US yet) means he'll be turning his back on the smaller, fan-supporting projects that have made him such an icon. Well, worry not, Whedonites looking forward to more projects in the vein of Dr. Horrible's Sing-a-long Blog, he's still making them. In fact, he filmed one, an adaptation of Shakespeare's Much Ado About Nothing, in his backyard when not working on The Avengers, and now, thanks to CBS News, we've got our first look at it.

It's a very brief look, unfortunately, and it doesn't appear until about the 6-minute mark, but it does feature Fran Kranz (best recognized as the stoner in the Whedon co-scripted The Cabin in the Woods) and a hint of the style and spirit Whedon is going for. The whole profile is actually worth watching, even if it is a bit broad and 'nightly news' in its presentation.
