Watch: Joss Whedon Says Sorry to South Korea for 'The Avengers: Age of Ultron'

Mar 28, 2014

Joss Whedon has just issued a video apology to the residents of Seoul for making The Avengers: Age of Ultron? Why? The film is about to take over the city for two weeks, and he feels really bad for having to disrupt their way of life for a little while.

The apology appears to be part of an awareness campaign to let residents know ahead of time why some major bridges are going to be closed down. The Korean film industry is growing every year, but it's still not used to the production scale some Hollywood movies bring to the table, so the local government is trying to make this as smooth a process as possible. The official Twitter account of the U.S. Embassy in Seoul even got in on spreading the word:

The Avengers 2 will actually be the first Hollywood movie to feature Seoul as a major action set piece, which is pretty cool if you ask us. When I visited Seoul a few years ago, I was struck by the utterly massive scale of the city. It's an enormous, sprawling metropolis filled with interesting architechture that's as inherently dramatic to look at as, say, New York City, if not more so considering it has several million more people living it in than NYC. In fact, Seoul is the second largest metropolitan area in the entire world (the first is Tokyo). Basically, it's going to be very refreshing to see a megacity other than NYC be a centerpiece in a superhero movie.

Here's a look at some of the parts of Seoul The Avengers: Age of Ultron will be utilizing. According to Kotaku, it'll take up about a 20-minute chunk of the movie.
