Taylor Kitsch becomes John Carter — the Civil War veteran who mysteriously finds himself on the planet Barsoom (known to us mortals as Mars) and uses his superhuman powers to save the natives on the dying planet. Bryan Cranston, Willem Defoe, and Thomas Hayden Church also star in the film that hits theaters on March 9. Andrew Stanton (Wall-E, Finding Nemo) makes his first live-action directorial debut with the sci-fi epic that is based on Edgar Rice Burroughs' Barsoom series. This version will be Disney's take on the stories, and a few new clips have arrived to entice us.
The action surrounds a legion of alien barbarians and Carter's insane jumping prowess. We get a little introduction from the moviemakers as well. Ain't It Cool's Harry Knowles caught a preview of the actioner and weighed in with his thoughts on Twitter. In case you're worried John Carter is all CG-action with no heart, Knowles advises that, "There are many moments that'll bring tears when you see it brought to life." He also described other moments as "pure magic" and told followers to leave the Star Wars comparisons at home. "It is it's own thing."
