Molly's Game

The big-screen adaptation of Stephen King's It became a major cultural phenomenon last September, igniting interest in a sequel, which was quickly given a green light. Even before It was released, however, actress Jessica Chastain (above in Molly's Gamevoiced her support.

Chastain and It director Andy Muschietti worked together previously on horror thriller Mama, which brought praise for both.

Naturally, the film's success and Chastain's support quickly sparked speculation that the actress might be cast in the sequel, which will will feature the adult versions of the characters introduced in the first film. Many suggested that Chastain would be ideal as the adult version of Beverly Marsh, played by young Sophia Lillis in It, below).

Now comes word that Chastain is in negotiations to join the cast of It: Chapter Two as the adult version of Beverly Marsh, according to Variety. The report says that negotiations are in an early stage and the screenplay by Gary Dauberman, who scripted the first movie, is still in progress.

Muschietti is confirmed to direct the sequel. Bill Skarsgard is expected to return as the villainous Pennywise the Clown, and Muschietti has indicated that he'd like to see the other young stars from the first film return as well, at least in smaller roles. Production is expected to get underway this summer. It: Chapter Two is slated for theatrical release on September 6, 2019.
