Jeremy Renner Picked As Bourne Replacement

Apr 21, 2011

  • The long search for the new Bourne is over. This afternoon, Universal named Jeremy Renner (The Hurt Locker, The Town) to fill Matt Damon's shoes in the action-thriller franchise. Deadline reports that Renner will play, "an operative from a covert government program that is even more dangerous than the Treadstone brainwashing program that hatched Bourne." Director Tony Gilroy has been petitioning for Animal Kingdom star Joel Edgerton for the role, while reports earlier today had James McAvoy and Shia LaBeouf as the studio's top choices for the fourth Bourne movie. The decision follows months of speculation which had names ranging from Jake Gyllenhaal to Alex Pettyfer taking over the franchise. OK, Bourne fans, what do you think of the studio's pick? At least it's not LaBeouf. --Derrick Deane
