Jean-Claude Van Damme Is Trying Hard to Land a Role in 'The Avengers 2'

Jean Claude Van DammeJean-Claude Van Damme isn’t exactly busy these days, so the action icon has a lot of free time to think about parts he’d love to play – and his latest may surprise you.

“The Muscles from Brussels” took to Facebook to let it be known that he’d really love to appear in The Avengers 2 (so would I, but that’s not likely to happen either…), stating “I read that Chris Hemsworth (star of Thor and brother of Liam Hemsworth, The Expendables 2) would like me to costar in The Avengers 2 movie! Well, it would be fun to play one of these types of amazing comic book characters again.” Van Damme was referring to a roundtable chat in which four castmembers from The Avengers offered up their opinion on who they'd like to see join the team.

While it’s true Hemsworth did say he’d like to see Van Damme in the new Avengers, it was a Bloodsport-era Van Damme who could give their new foe a “big kick to the alien head.” Other people or characters the Avengers cast would like to see as potential new team members included Salma Hayek, Spider-Man (no clarification on whether it was Tobey Maguire’s Spidey or the Andrew Garfield version…), and Wolverine.

Getting back to JCVD, he already has roles in mind for himself. The actor is a “big fan of Silver Surfer” and also has a fondness for Doc Savage. We can’t see Van Damme as the Silver Surfer no matter how much we squint. Doc Savage is less of a stretch, but still a pretty big leap.

That being said, there is one Marvel character I always thought Van Damme could have probably pulled off – and that’s vigilante Frank Castle, aka the Punisher. The actor’s martial arts skills and action movie chops could certainly work there.

It seems unlikely that Van Damme will be donning spandex for Marvel anytime soon, but if he did, what character do you think he should play in the superhero universe?
