Jason Schwartzman, Zach Galifianakis and Ted Danson to Bring 'Bored to Death' to the Big Screen

Jason Schwartzman, Zach Galifianakis and Ted Danson to Bring 'Bored to Death' to the Big Screen

Jan 23, 2013

Remember HBO's Brooklyn P.I. comedy series starring Jason Schwartzman, Zach Galifianakis and Ted Danson? Only the special people do. The premium cable network is ready to bring Bored to Death back from the grave (it was canceled in 2011) as a feature film. THR reported that former New York Press columnist Jonathan Ames, who lent his name to Schwartzman's character in the show, would be writing the adaptation. Danson let word slip about the neo-noir project late last year, which finds Schwartzman's Jonathan as a writer who leads a double life as a bumbling detective. Ray (Galifianakis) is his bestie, and George (Danson) is his editor and wacky father figure.

Danson hinted that Jonathan would become a police officer, and that Ray and George would become roommates. An actual synopsis for the film reads: "Jonathan, Ray and George reunite to fight crime, commit crime, lose their minds and fail at love in a Bored to Death feature-length slapstick adventure." We're happy either way.

If you're new to the series — and since it was Dead Man director Jim Jarmusch's birthday yesterday — check out this clip to get a feel for the tone and humor of the show. You can practically hear the sad trombone as Jarmusch (who plays himself) rides circles around Jonathan and tells him, "I can't say no to Charlie Kaufman." No one can.
