First Look: Jamie Foxx Looks Insane (and Very Blue) in 'The Amazing Spider-Man 2'

Apr 16, 2013

Thanks to some very public shooting on The Amazing Spider-Man 2 over the weekend in New York City, we have our first look at part of Jamie Foxx's villain Electro in the sequel. Gone is the green-and-yellow look from the old-school comics and it's been replaced with a very Dr. Manhattan-esque blue (reminiscent of the way the character appeared in the The Ultimate Spider-Man), which seems to radiate out from underneath the black hoodie the character wears when he's roaming the streets in search of a nearby Starbucks or Spider-Man, whichever gets in his way first. You'll notice small lights in and around the hood, making it so the character's face gives off this ominous blue glow. Nearby, we can spot the kids already lining up for the Halloween costume.

Speaking recently to Blackfilm [via Film Stage] regarding the costume, Foxx said, "It won’t be green and yellow. It will be a different color. They (the producers) want something for the future. They want to have it more grounded and not as comic book-y, so it won’t be green and yellow. They want to try new things, like a liquid rubber and things like that, and there are all these bolts and stuff in my arms when they are hanging me upside down and trying to figure out what happen. How did he become this way? So, it will be some new stuff."

One thing we like already is that this looks nothing like Jamie Foxx. Whenever you have these high-profile actors and actresses take on major roles in a superhero movie, you want them to disappear in the character, à la Heath Ledger's Joker in The Dark Knight. Sometimes that's not the case, and all we see is a popular actor trying desperately to play a character we don't buy, à la Arnold Schwarzenegger's Mr. Freeze in Batman & Robin.

We're definitely diggin' Foxx's creepy look here, though. What say you?

The Amazing Spider-Man 2 is due in theaters on May 2, 2014. You can scope out more images at the Daily Mail.
