It's not the greatest image because it's scanned from a magazine, but it is our first look at James Franco as the small-time circus magician who gets magically transported to a strange new land full of good witches and bad witches in Sam Raimi's Oz The Great and Powerful.
In the film, due out on March 8th, 2013, Franco plays the man who is to become the great Wizard of Oz, but first he must deal with three witches who do not believe he's Oz's savior. Those witches will be played by Mila Kunis (Theodora), Rachel Weisz (Evanora) and Michelle Williams (Glinda), with folks like Zach Braff, Ted Raimi, and Abigail Spencer also starring.
Expect to hear more about the film at comic-con, where it should make an appearance and screen some footage. You can scope out the official plot synopsis below.
When Oscar Diggs (Franco), a small-time circus magician with dubious ethics, is hurled away from dusty Kansas to the vibrant Land of Oz, he thinks he's hit the jackpot-fame and fortune are his for the taking-that is until he meets three witches, Theodora (Mila Kunis), Evanora (Rachel Weisz) and Glinda (Michelle Williams), who are not convinced he is the great wizard everyone's been expecting. Reluctantly drawn into the epic problems facing the Land of Oz and its inhabitants, Oscar must find out who is good and who is evil before it is too late. Putting his magical arts to use through illusion, ingenuity-and even a bit of wizardry-Oscar transforms himself not only into the great and powerful Wizard of Oz but into a better man as well.
