James Cameron: Battleship Adaptation ‘Degrades Cinema’

  • Will he sink their Battleship? It doesn’t take a genius to figure out that any adaptation of a boardgame is probably an ill-conceived, creatively bankrupt idea. It’s better when one points it out though, and James Cameron, with his two top-selling movies of all time, is just such a genius. Translated from a German interview, the Avatar filmmaker blames the studio need to brand their output, saying “Unfortunately these franchises are becoming more ridiculous. Battleship. This degrades the cinema.” Burn, assuming the translation is sound. Peter Berg’s movie might be a fun alien invasion flick… but when did Battleship ever have anything to do with aliens? --Adam Rosenberg
