Meet the New Bond Girls, Watch the Ultimate 007 Car Chase and More

Sep 26, 2012

Welcome to James Bond Countdown, our resident 007 expert's in-depth analysis of the James Bond franchise leading up to the release of Skyfall this November.

James Bond Documentary Poster

A poster has been revealed promoting the new feature-length documentary on the history of the Bond movies. Everything or Nothing: The Untold Story of 007 hits theaters next week (October 1 in the U.K. and October 5 stateside), and explores the three men behind cinema's longest-running franchise: Bond producers Albert R. "Cubby" Broccoli and Harry Saltzman, and author Ian Fleming. All six actors are featured on the bold, illustration-style one sheet. Where can we get one of these for our bedroom? (Oh, sorry.)

New Skyfall Video Blog: Naomie Harris and Bérénice Marlohe

This newest Skyfall video blog puts the spotlight on sexy, deadly Bond Girls Naomie Harris and Bérénice Marlohe. Harris' field agent Eve considers herself 007's equal. She's on the frontlines of the action with a gun in hand, behind the wheel racing toward danger, and by Bond's side for his international operation. Meanwhile, Marlohe's femme fatale Séverine is an enigmatic seductress with a complex personality. Both women agree that it takes more than good looks to be a proper Bond Girl. See what else the actresses have to say in the above clip.
U.K. Skyfall Poster Unveiled and New Promo Stills
More Daniel Craig eye candy? We'll take it. Check out the new U.K. poster for Skyfall featuring a dapper 007, the iconic gunbarrell image, and a view of the London skyline. We know Craig's Bond will be in the English city, Istanbul and the South China Sea for Bond 23 — but much of the emphasis has been on Bond's British heritage for the 50th anniversary celebrations. We also have some new promo pics that recently popped up, and a new Skyfall international trailer that features Javier Bardem's villain Silva prominently. It's a lot of the same stuff we've seen, but we can't get enough, so deal with it.

Former Bond Girl Jane Seymour Shares Details about Live and Let Die
Bond's somewhat accidental foray into the blaxploitation genre, Live and Let Die, starred a 20-year-old Jane Seymour as Solitaire. She was a tarot card-reading psychic for Bond villain Dr. Kananga — who gets hilariously blown to pieces by shark gun pellets. Her crazy mind powers are no match for 007's charm, however, and Roger Moore seduces her.
This was Moore's first foray into the series, and his performance was met with lukewarm reviews. As 007 fans know, Moore had a hard act to follow in Sean Connery and unfortunately some audiences could never appreciate his cheeky brand of Bond for what it was. Seymour recently spoke to FOX411 about her role in the spy franchise. "My Bond character was meant to look like a virgin, I don't think they do that very often," the actress stated. "Usually they are looking for someone exotic, different, beautiful, someone that is a nemesis or a lover for [Bond]. There is always a twist to it, there is always something exotic about a Bond Girl." Seymour also explained the bond (no pun intended) between 007 starlets. "It's interesting that whenever I meet some of the other Bond Girls, I always have something in common, and it is an interesting sorority. We all share about our Bonds. 'Did your Bond do that?' 'Yes mine did!' So it is quite funny conversations. We may as well be in high school." Watch a clip of the star in Live and Let Die, below.

Skyfall Emmy's TV Spot

Did you watch the Emmys? Did you fall in love with Breaking Bad's Giancarlo Esposito's crazy suit? Did you see the TV trailer for Skyfall? Ralph Fiennes is all like, "Where the hell is Bond?" And then Judi Dench is like, "Yo, I got this." And then Daniel Craig is all, "What up? I BREAK TRAINS." Check it.
50 of the Best James Bond One-Liners
Since I'm such a Bond addict, I have to spread the love around. Visit my list of 50 James Bond one-liners, where you can see Dr. Kananga's aforementioned cheesy death and revel in lines like this, from Diamonds Are Forever:
Plenty O’Toole: "Hi, I’m Plenty."
Bond: "But of course you are."
Plenty O’Toole: "Plenty O’Toole."
Bond: "Named after your father perhaps?"
Or, On Her Majesty’s Secret Service:
Draco: "My apologies for the way you were brought here. I wasn’t sure you’d accept a formal invitation."
Bond: "There’s always something formal about the point of a pistol."

Designer Tom Ford Talks Daniel Craig's Suits
Skyfall will mark designer Tom Ford's second time working with Bond, and in an interview with website Purple Revolver, Ford said he couldn't be more thrilled with the look of Daniel Craig's sleek wardrobe:
"I was very excited when I was first approached by [film producer] Barbara Broccoli about dressing Daniel Craig as James Bond," said Ford. 'I worked with Jany Temime [Skyfall's costume designer] on creating the perfect classic wardrobe.  I have been dressing Daniel for some time and know that he looks best when simply dressed, so we did some beautiful suits, tuxedos and daywear. We didn't really modify our suits, as James Bond is a bit like our guy — classic and extremely elegant."
"It's impossible to name all my style icons, but I am constantly inspired by Cary Grant and Steve McQueen. I am fortunate that every leading man I would love to dress wears — and buys — Tom Ford,' he said. 'Brad Pitt has been an extremely loyal customer since the onset of the brand, and I am happy to dress Daniel Craig, Tom Hanks, Johnny Depp, Ryan Gosling and Will Smith, among many many others.'"

Daniel Craig and Bérénice Marlohe's Heineken Spot

Watch our secret agent and his ladylove shill for Skyfall sponsor Heineken. The results are actually pretty impressive. A Bond lookalike gets caught up in a train chase and almost makes the moves on 007's girl. Then, head over here to see some awesome pics from a Heineken promo party in a New York City subway car.

James Bond Car Chase Mash-up Video

Here's an incredible mash-up from Sky Movies, who have united all six Bonds in one exhilarating car chase using footage from Dr. No, On Her Majesty's Secret Service, The Spy Who Loved Me, The Living Daylights, Goldeneye, The World Is Not Enough and Quantum of Solace. See Sean Connery, George Lazenby, Roger Moore, Timothy Dalton, Pierce Brosnan and Daniel Craig behind the wheel and being total badasses.

Vintage Poster Collection

We are so into these vintage, international posters that we recently spotted on Dangerous Minds. They're from Japan and chock-full of images.

Taschen's Complete Collection of James Bond Interviews and Images
This gorgeous book from Taschen is the most complete collection of images and interviews from the James Bond series. The 600-page, hardcover James Bond Archives was created in collaboration with 007's studio home, Eon Productions, and covers every chapter in the franchise starting with Dr. No and ending with the upcoming Skyfall. The book releases on November 9 and can be purchased over here.
Photos from the 1967 James Bond Auditions
When producers were attempting to adapt Ian Fleming's novels for the first time, they chose then unknown Sean Connery for the part of the gentleman spy. The Scottish actor left the series after five films and the hunt was on for a new Bond. A casting call was issued, and several wannabes tried out for the part of the suave and sexy secret agent. Several of the top candidates — including George Lazenby, who was eventually chosen for the coveted role — donned a sharp suit and grabbed a signature martini. A photographer captured the contenders at play. See the rest of the audition photos at Retronaut, and try to imagine one of these five guys saying Bond's classic lines.

There are 29 days until the London premiere of Skyfall on October 26, 2012 — commemorating the franchise's 50th anniversary. The Sam Mendes-directed film opens in the U.S. on November 9 and finds Daniel Craig returning to the role of James Bond. The movie also stars a villainous Javier Bardem and new Bond Girl Bérénice Marlohe.
