This franchise promised it would be back, and here we are with the final casting pieces falling into place. Jai Courtney (aka John McClane's son in A Good Day to Die Hard) has hopped on board to play Kyle Reese in Terminator: Genesis, a new installment in the Terminator franchise that promises to be the first in a stand-alone trilogy.
In the original Terminator, Reese was played by a grizzled Michael Biehn, who was sent from the future to protect the mother (Sarah Connor) of the leader (John Connor) of a resistance that rises up to battle an army of robots who've taken over the planet. All three characters will return for Genesis, with Jason Clarke playing John Connor and Emilia Clarke playing his mother, Sarah. Considering all three are close in age, this leads many to believe the film will take place in different times, perhaps as a war is waged both in the past and future. Arnold Schwarzenegger is also expected to return to the series, though it's unknown whether he'll be a good guy, a bad guy or both.
Courtney beat out a few other up-and-comers for the part, and we can see why. Like Biehn, he has that attractive bad-boy look to him, and his previous on-screen experience proves the dude can handle plenty of action. Courtney's also a hot actor right now, with four (count 'em four!) movies arriving in 2014, including a meaty role in the YA fan-favorite Divergent, which hits screens in March.
Terminator: Genesis, which will be directed by Alan Taylor (Thor: The Dark World), hits theaters on July 1, 2015.
So is Jai Courtney the right fit for Kyle Reese? Heck, if anything the guy knows how to jam out on the guitar.
