A Glimpse Inside the Mind of Charlie Swan III

Bill Murray: Just yesterday, we heard that Bill Murray had been confirmed to play a father figure in St. Vincent de Van Nuys, and now we have an image to share of Murray as a cowboy. It’s from Roman Coppola’s upcoming comedy A Glimpse Inside the Mind of Charles Swan III, which also stars Charlie Sheen, Jason Schwartzman and Patricia Arquette. No release date has been set for the movie, though distribution in the U.S. has been secured. [Yahoo! Movies]

Bryan Cranston: Since his breakout role as high school chemistry teacher turned drug kingpin on TV’s Breaking Bad, Bryan Cranston has nabbed a number of small supporting roles in films as varied as Drive, Total Recall and Argo, but he’s ready to headline again. He’ll star in Eye of Winter, an indie drama to be directed by Tze Chun (who debuted with the wonderful Children of Invention), as a nearly blind career criminal who kidnaps a motel owner (Alice Eve) and her daughter to help him get his money back from a crooked cop. Independence Day: After announcing months ago that it would rerelease Roland Emmerich’s blockbuster science-fiction smash Independence Day in 3D next summer, Fox has evidently canceled its plans to do so. (Fox has not yet issued an official statement.) Producer Dean Devlin said this past summer that he and Emmerich were working together again and they had come up with a “worthy concept” for a sequel -- or two. Now we wonder if sequel talk has been squashed as well. [Exhibitor Relations via Collider]

Jack the Giant Slayer Trailer: Formerly known as Jack the Giant Killer, Bryan Singer’s upcoming adventure movie has been rechristened Jack the Giant Slayer, but it still features a darkly comic tone, colossal set pieces and spectacular action, as amply showcased in a new trailer. The movie’s due in theaters on March 1, 2013. [Apple via The Film Stage]
