It’s Good to Be the King: Mel Brooks Gets the Royal Treatment

It’s Good to Be the King: Mel Brooks Gets the Royal Treatment

Sep 16, 2009

The Schwartz will be with funnyman Mel Brooks this holiday season when Twentieth Century Fox releases The Mel Brooks Collection on Blu-ray on December 15. The shticky set contains nine of the director’s funniest movies, including Blazing Saddles, Spaceballs and Young Frankenstein, all three of which are already available individually on BD. The other six movies—High Anxiety, History of the World: Part I, Robin Hood: Men in Tights, Silent Movie, To Be or Not to Be and Twelve Chairs—are making their high-definition debut and, for right now, this set is the only way to get them on BD. There is no information about bonus features for the six BD debuts yet, but we’re hoping for commentary tracks from Brooks like the always tongue-in-cheek octogenarian provided for Blazing Saddles, Spaceballs and Young Frankenstein. Whatever is included on the new Blu-rays, you don’t need the Schwartz to tell you that they will make the older DVDs total bubkes.
