Apparently, it’s a good week to be a witch hunter. If the movies are to be believed, this could be America’s next great growth industry.
Audiences got their first look at Jeremy Renner and Gemma Arterton in Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters back on Tuesday, and now we’ve got news about another actor ready to sign on to track down these practitioners of the dark arts.
The Wrap reports that Fast and Furious star Vin Diesel is currently in talks to tackle the lead role in Summit’s The Last Witch Hunter. Can you see Riddick hunting down Satan’s favorite concubines?
Should Diesel take the gig, he’ll join Breck Eisner’s project as one of the last witch hunters on Earth – a man tasked with tracking down a group of witches and warlocks in modern-day NYC and convincing them not to reproduce. Yeah, good luck with that -- those witches and warlocks are like rabbits. The film is based on a script by Cory Goodman (which made the 2010 Black List of best unproduced screenplays floating around Hollywood).
Summit originally acquired the rights to the project back in 2010 – and hired Wanted director Timur Bekmambetov to helm. Bekmambetov eventually bailed, clearing the way for Eisner – who previously gave us a remake of George Romero’s The Crazies.
We’ll bring you more on The Last Witch Hunter as it winds its way through the production process.
