Back in 2011, news broke that Snakes on a Plane director David R. Ellis was attached to direct an adaptation of the cult anime Kite. Unfortunately, Ellis passed away unexpectedly in early 2013, which left many wondering if this particular project would ever move forward. Today, we can show you that it did, as we’ve got a new nine-minute clip that has Samuel L. Jackson introducing the film, a trailer, and the opening scenes of the actual movie.

India Eisley costars in the feature – playing a young woman who’s out to avenge the murder of her parents while also assassinating members of a group who deal in the trafficking of young women. Yasuomi Umetsu’s anime was renowned for its graphic violence and rape scenes, which will be toned down significantly for Ralph Ziman’s live-action update.

Based on the footage in the clip, Ziman’s update looks stylish – and the opening action sequence is mostly satisfying and sure to appeal to movie geeks who like stories about girls who kick ass. What’s most interesting is how this whole video just sort of popped up out of nowhere. Kite doesn’t even have a release date yet, but you can whet your appetite for what lies ahead by having a look at the trailer and opening segment below.
