Toronto is a great city and one we love to visit, but the Canadian metropolis just became ten thousand times more amazing since the masterminds at TIFF have announced a traveling David Cronenberg
exhibit launching in fall 2013. The festivities will take place at TIFF Bell Lightbox and include a "newly commissioned augmented reality game and a dedicated film programme." Um, yes. The tour kicks off in summer of 2014. Hopefully our heads don't explode Scanners
-style with anticipation.
The exhibition is an effort to preserve the director's papers, objects, and film catalogue, presenting artifacts, props, documentation, audio-visual interviews, reconstructed set-pieces from his films, helping to trace the roots of his filmography. TIFF is promising a parallel art project inspired by Cronenbergian themes, which will be announced at a later date. It wouldn't be TIFF without a dedicated film series, and the group will present "newly struck 35mm prints and new digital versions of select films" to accompany the extravaganza.
Specific details and dates will be announced in the coming months — AKA not soon enough!
As a bonus, check out this conversation with David Cronenberg and his son Brandon from the Cannes Film Festival, where both men premiered films this year.
