The guys at Improv Everywhere have been delighting movie fans for the past few months with impromptu performance art pieces re-creating classic scenes from great films. With the holidays rapidly approaching, it makes perfect sense that they’d eventually get around to reenacting a scene from the beloved A Christmas Story at some point this month. Turns out, the special event has happened – and we’ve got video of the scene.
There is no shortage of great moments in Bob Clark’s holiday staple that would have been worthy of an improv performance. However, the crew could only pick one – and they settled on the infamous “tongue frozen to the flagpole” sequence from early in the film.
Rather than perform outside, our three young actors take the scene to a crowded subway car, where a subway pole stands in for the flag. If you’re worried about some poor kid putting his tongue on a filthy part of the public transit system, fear not – he used a prosthetic tongue with a magnet inside to make sure the appendage stuck and that he wasn’t getting cooties in the process.
The results are classic as delighted onlookers watch the scene unfold. Watch it for yourself below and see if it helps you get into the holiday spirit.
