One interesting factoid from this past Sundance Film Festival was that the fest hosted not one, but two solid films about cults and Fox Searchlight picked them both up. The first, Sound of My Voice, stars festival break-out Brit Marling as the leader of a cult who claims she's from the future. The other, titled Martha Marcy May Marlene, stars another festival break-out star in Elizabeth Olsen, who plays a girl trying to come to terms with her life after fleeing an abusive cult.
Both films garnered some terrific praise out of Sundance, but many are looking toward Elizabeth Olsen and John Hawkes (who's terrific as the seedy, freaky cult leader) for potential awards consideration as Searchlight gets ready to debut the film in limited release on October 21st. The marketing campaign has been a fun and creative one so far too. First they debuted two QR-coded trailers via the film's poster, and now comes a motion poster that touches on the main character's long lasting paranoia as she stares back at us, almost willing us into saving her from her own personal hell. Check it out below, along with the brand new trailer.
