Until the first images from the Nevaldine/Taylor-directed Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance started making their way around the web today, I had completely forgotten that the great Idris Elba was even in the movie. The simple fact that it's not a direct sequel to the goofy 2007 film directed by Mark Steven Johnson is reason enough to look forward to the film, but now that I'm reminded Stringer Bell is going to be in it, February of 2012 can't get here soon enough.
The first few images from an appropriately grittier Ghost Rider aren't the only new images making the rounds today. The Pete Travis-directed (Vantage Point), Alex Garland-scripted (Sunshine) reboot of Judge Dredd, with the truncated title Dredd, has offered up a few more production stills. This time around we get to see Oliva Thirlby (Juno) putting on her best "I've got a sub-machine gun" face (this is her first action role), as well as a few more looks at star Karl Urban as Mega City One's most reviled judge/jury/executioner. The really interesting still in the bunch (head to /Film to see them all), however, is of the normally porcelain-faced Lena Headey as the scar-faced leader of a street gang. The Judge helmets may still look goofy, but damned if that Heady shot doesn't give us a very welcome Escape From New York vibe.
And finally we have the first official image from the Marc Forster-directed (Finding Neverland) Machine Gun Preacher starring Gerard Butler. And what's weird about this picture isn't that it's the exact opposite of what you expect when you heard the words "Gerard Butler" and "Machine Gun Preacher" in the same sentence (the film has an Oscar-bait premise about an ex drug dealer who helps children in Africa), it's that somehow I've actually been picturing this in my head the entire time when thinking about the movie. I'm not sure what that certifies though. Either the film truly is predictable Oscar bait or I'm psychic. I'm going to go with the latter.
