This December, King's Speech director Tom Hooper will be sharing his Les Misérables adaptation with audiences. The movie is, of course, based on that Broadway musical your French teacher probably dragged you to see in school that you were probably too young to totally grasp, but the songs were pretty and made you cry. (The production was adapted from Victor Hugo's 1862 novel.) There will be music with this version as well, thanks to the vocal chops of stars Amanda Seyfriend (who plays Cosette), Helena Bonham-Carter (starring as Madame Thénardier), Anne Hathaway (as Fantine), and Sacha Baron Cohen (who will make a great Monsieur Thénardier).
One cast member was recently spotted on set looking a little miserables. Hugh Jackman — who is taking on the part of Jean Valjean in the film — looked like a frail, scruffy homeless guy wandering the streets when photogs snagged the below images of the actor. Valjean was imprisoned for19 years after stealing bread trying to feed his family during France's economic depression. It was the 19th century after all. The ex-con redeems himself and proves to be a kind, good man — despite his turbulent past and a relentless police inspector on his tail (played by Russell Crowe).
Jackman definitely looks the part. Are you ready to see his ragged and worn Valjean make right and sing his heart out? [via Celebuzz
