It may only be the middle of August, but it’s never too soon to start thinking about Halloween. Everyone’s favorite horrific holiday is right around the corner, and if you’re one of those folks who goes all out when it comes to turning your house into a modern day haunted mansion, we’ve got some interesting news for you.
Magic Stone Productions and Brainstorm Media are currently producing an as yet untitled feature documentary about Homemade Haunted Houses to be directed by Michael Stephenson (Best Worst Movie). The program, which will air on an NBCUniversal cable network (sounds perfect for Chiller…), is looking for participants. So, if you build the hedge maze from Kubrick’s The Shining in your backyard or turn your bathroom into a perfect recreation of the one featured in Psycho every October, then these guys want to hear from you. We’re guessing the guy who built a replica of the original Michael Myers house from John Carpenter’s Halloween is in already.
The program is aiming to be a celebration of the dedication some people put into making the much maligned Halloween holiday something special for those around them. If that sounds like you, then head on over to the official submission form and put your name into contention. Who knows, we might all be seeing your handiwork on cable this fall.
As lovers of all things horrific here at the site, we can’t wait to see some of these homemade haunted houses – and we’re not just saying that because our own John Gholson did official artwork for the show, but that’s awesome too. We’ll keep you posted on this one as the leaves start to change and we get closer to Halloween.
