There are a surprising number of film and television projects in the works right now about Alfred Hitchcock and his most famous film, Psycho, but easily the most prestigious of the lot is simply titled Hitchcock.
Directed by Sacha Gervasi (Anvil: The Story of Anvil) from a screenplay by John J. McLaughlin (Black Swan) based on a book by film historian Stephen Rebello, this particular project is centered around the marriage of Hitchcock and his wife, Alma Reville, during the filming of Psycho. And if the subject matter alone doesn't separate it enough, the cast includes Anthony Hopkins as Hitchcock, Helen Mirren as Reville, Scarlett Johansson as Janet Leigh, Jessica Biel as Vera Miles, and a whole host of other actors, including Toni Collette, Michael Wincott, Danny Huston and even Ralph Macchio.
The first trailer for the film, which enters limited release this November and will most likely be a buzzed title for awards season, just hit Apple, and it looks pretty fantastic. Even aside from the sheer delight of seeing Hopkins play the iconic director, it just looks like a charming, lighthearted look at a very specific moment in the life of one of Hollywood's greatest. You can already sense the chemistry between Mirren and Hopkins, and while Johansson isn't exactly a dead ringer for Janet Leigh, she certainly looks like she's having fun with the part.
