Yesterday was Stanley Kubrick's birthday. While we're all left wondering what movies the auteur would be making today if he were still around, here's a look at what his classic space meditation 2001 would be like if the film had been released as a modern summer blockbuster.
Gone is the glorious minimalism that helped make Kubrick's 1968 production one of the ultimate cinematic achievements. Replacing it are fast cuts, the clanging sounds of Jack Trammell's "Tactical Dominance," and other aggressive editing choices. We can't decide if it looks like a movie we're actually dying to see, or if we just appreciate it for the astute joke that it is. Either way, give it a watch below, and let the Film School Rejects team know what you make of it.
