Harrison Ford to Return as Han Solo in 'Star Wars: Episode VII,' Sources Say

Feb 15, 2013

When they first announced this whole Star Wars deal, rumors began swirling as to whether the original Star Wars trilogy cast members would reprise their roles in Star Wars: Episode VII, which will pick up after the events of Return of the Jedi. Those rumored were Mark Hamill (Luke Skywalker), Carrie Fisher (Princess Leia) and Harrison Ford (Han Solo), the latter of which was quoted as being open to the idea. According to scooper El Mayimble over at Latino Review, Ford may have now transitioned from being open to the idea to being cast in the movie, as he claims it's a done deal (and a "significant" one at that) -- Han Solo will be back for Episode VII

If Ford returns, chances are very likely that both Hamill and Fisher will follow. We imagine the three will play crucial roles in Episode VII before potentially handing the franchise off to a new set of heroes. What's doubly interesting about Harrison Ford returning to Han Solo is that recently a Han Solo spin-off movie was rumored to be in the works too. Could Solo's presence in Episode VII connect to the spin-off movie in some way?

Remember Disney owns Marvel, and it is very much involved in the way Marvel is connecting its films to a larger universe. With Episode VII writer Michael Arndt working closely with spin-off Star Wars writers Lawrence Kasdan and Simon Kinberg, that leads us to believe they're working together for a reason -- and it's so they're all on the same page in the ways each film will connect to the other one. If Ford returns for Episode VII, could he also return for that spin-off movie?

Should be fun to see where this major rumor goes from here...
