Update: According to Alcon Entertainment there is no truth to the rumor that Harrison Ford is in early talks to star in the new Blade Runner movie, saying "It is absolutely patently false that there has been any discussion about Harrison Ford being in Blade Runner." [Deadline]
Update 2: And now Twitch Film has written a post backing up their source, claiming the denial is just a part of their strategy.
Remember those stories about Ridley Scott’s Blade Runner reboot/sequel that said Harrison Ford wouldn’t be back as Deckard? Well, it turns out those might not have been true.
Back in August, producer Andrew Kosove told The LA Times “In no way do I speak for Ridley Scott but if you're asking me will this movie have anything to do with Harrison Ford, the answer is no. This is a total reinvention and in my mind that means doing everything fresh, including casting.” Everyone assumed that meant this new Blade Runner would move in an entirely new – and different -- direction.
However, Twitch has learned that Harrison Ford is currently in negotiations to join the cast of the new version. It’s assumed these discussions are in the very early stages, so things may or may not work out, but it lends credence to the idea that Scott’s film will be a true sequel to his cult classic and not a reboot or remake. If you love Blade Runner, that’s pretty exciting.
The assumption is that Blade Runner will be Scott’s next feature now that he’s finished Prometheus, but the director has several other titles on his development slate as well – so there could be shuffling. However, if Ford should decide to join the cast, we’d think this film would be locked in as Scott’s next release. The buzz would be phenomenal.
What do you think? Does the potential return of Harrison Ford get you more fired up for a new Blade Runner or is Ford – who would be 70 before this film even started shooting – too old to return to the part? Weigh in below.
