Guillermo del Toro to Teach Master Class on Alfred Hitchcock in May (Plus Find Out How to Get Involved)

Apr 09, 2012

Guillermo del Toro — also known as the man who never sleeps (have you seen his filmography lately, or just ever?) — will be leading a four-night master class on the maestro of suspense, Alfred Hitchcock. The Toronto-based presentation is part of the city's International Film Festival Bell Lightbox's upcoming spring program, and the monster-savvy director's appearance will be the highlight of the series. The Pan's Labyrinth filmmaker will be screening one film per night, including Frenzy, Shadow of a Doubt, North by Northwest, and Notorious. Each class will sport a one-hour introduction and one-hour post-screening lecture for each film. The series happens in May (7, 8, 15, and 16), and you can visit the website for more information.

Del Toro has written a book on Hitchcock before — simply titled Alfred Hitchcock — that was edited by the University of Guadalajara. It's available on Amazon, but we've never set eyes on it. He's also been interviewed about the famed director for several documentaries, so this isn't his first time at the rodeo. Let us know if you plan on attending the classes, so we can be jealous forever.

If you need a little extra enticement to check out TIFF's Festival Bell Lightbox series (for shame!), Crispin Hellion Glover will be there performing a dramatic narration of eight of his illustrated books, complete with projections of the works. His show starts this weekend (April 14, 15) and includes screenings of his It Is Fine. Everything Is Fine! and his directorial debut feature What Is It?. A Q&A session and book signing are also on tap with the fantastically quirky star. More info awaits you over here.
