A Guide to the Various 'Django Unchained' Blu-rays Hitting Stores Tomorrow

Apr 15, 2013

This week Quentin Tarantino's Django Unchained hits home video. Thanks to the wonders of the free market, fans of the film have a number of options to choose from. Different retailers are fighting for your dollars and so the big four chains in America are each offering different incentives to buy from them. Sure, fragmented releases like this are kind of annoying, but they do have their advantages if you're looking for something a little different, so here's our breakdown of each retailer's edition.

The film itself is the same across the board, it's only packaging and special features of the Blu-ray that may vary. We'll start with the standard release.

The Standard Two-Disc Combo Pack (Blu-ray + DVD/Digital Copy) - $22.99

Available: Everywhere Blu-rays are sold.

Special Features: "Remembering J. Michael Riva: The Production Design of Django Unchained" (13 minutes), a tribute to the film's late production designer; "Reimagining the Spaghetti Western: The Horses and Stunts of Django Unchained "(14 minutes), pretty much what it says in the title; "The Costume Designs of Sharen Davis" (12 minutes); ads for the Tarantino XX Blu-ray collection and the film's soundtrack.

The Three-Disc Combo (Blu-ray + DVD/Digital Copy + DVD Bonus) - $24.96

Available: Walmart Exclusive

Bonus Features: "Django Unchained: Reimagining the Spaghetti Western" - Unfortunately there's no run time listed for this extra, but we imagine it's in line with the 12-14 minutes long featurettes that are already on the disc.

The Two-Disc Combo (Blu-ray + DVD/Digital Copy) - $22.99

Available: Best Buy Exclusive

Bonus Features: Same as the standard release, only with this metal-looking slip cover and different internal packaging.

The Three-Disc Steelbook Combo (Blu-ray + DVD/Digital Copy + DVD Bonus) - $26.99

Available: Target Exclusive

Bonus Features: A sleek steelbook case; an extra DVD that contains "The Stars of Django Unchained Unleashed at Comic-Con 2012" (53 minutes) - "full coverage" of the film's Hall H panel that featured Tarantino and his cast talking about the film.

Note: Prices above are those listed online. Your local store's prices may vary.
