Update: Full 'Guardians of the Galaxy' Trailer Proves This Marvel Movie Is Going to Rock

Feb 18, 2014

Update: And here's the first trailer, in full:

It may be billed as Marvel's riskiest superhero movie to date, but everything we've seen from Guardians of the Galaxy so far has us itching to see the thing, like, yesterday, and this teaser is no exception.

The most cosmic of all the Marvel films to date, a majority of Guardians of the Galaxy will be set in space, on various planets, and features a mix of alien creatures (including a badass, machine gun-wielding raccoon and a giant talking tree voiced by Vin Diesel) that will most assuredly set this sucker apart from everything that's come before it.

Think along the lines of Star Wars meets The Avengers, as Chris Pratt leads this ragtag group of otherworldly misfits with a swagger we haven't seen since the days of Han Solo. Add to that a pair of female ass kickers in Zoe Saldana and Karen Gillan, plus Dave Bautista, Michael Rooker, Lee Pace, John C. Reilly, Benicio Del Toro and the list goes on. But even with all those names, the one that makes us most excited is director James Gunn, who, like his characters, is a bit of a rogue outsider who plays by his own rules.

When it comes to the superhero movie of the year, these Guardians will most definitely give Captain America, Spider-Man and those X-Men a run for their box office money.

The official synopsis:

From Marvel, the studio that brought you the global blockbuster franchises of Iron Man, Thor, Captain America and The Avengers, comes a new team--the Guardians of the Galaxy. An action-packed, epic space adventure, Marvel's "Guardians of the Galaxy" expands the Marvel Cinematic Universe into the cosmos, where brash adventurer Peter Quill finds himself the object of an unrelenting bounty hunt after stealing a mysterious orb coveted by Ronan, a powerful villain with ambitions that threaten the entire universe. To evade the ever-persistent Ronan, Quill is forced into an uneasy truce with a quartet of disparate misfits--Rocket, a gun-toting raccoon; Groot, a tree-like humanoid; the deadly and enigmatic Gamora; and the revenge-driven Drax the Destroyer. But when Quill discovers the true power of the orb and the menace it poses to the cosmos, he must do his best to rally his ragtag rivals for a last, desperate stand--with the galaxy's fate in the balance.

What do you think of the footage? Is this now your most anticipated superhero movie of the year, or are you weary of it?
