Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy couldn’t hold on to the top spot at the box office this weekend (it was bumped down to number two by the Ninja Turtles), but the film still took in an impressive $45 million, which puts it at over $175 million domestically. Clearly, we all love Guardians of the Galaxy.
While we’re still coming to terms with the idea of waiting three years for a sequel, there are lots of cool goodies to explore related to the original film to help pass the time – like these excellent examples of concept art from the movie.
Concept art is a funny thing. Sometimes we’ll see early sketches of stuff that looks nothing like what wound up on the screen. Other times, the artwork provides an early glimpse at what the filmmaker would capture on camera. In Guardians’ case, it’s the latter.
We totally love that Jackson Sze piece with Rocket and Groot at the top of this article – we’d hang that in our living room, even if our significant others objected.
Also included are some early character designs, including these takes on Groot from Josh Herman.
Here's Baby Groot
Here’s a nice landscape battle from Rodney Fuentebella.
And some more character designs from Jerad Merantaz. These feature alternate looks at some of the film's background aliens.
If you like those, you can check out more over at Guard the Galaxy.
