Rumored 'Guardians of the Galaxy' Cameo Would Bring Back an Infamous Cult Favorite

Rumored 'Guardians of the Galaxy' Cameo Would Bring Back an Infamous Cult Favorite

Jul 17, 2014

Do we have to say "spoilers?" If you're already reading, then you must want to know, and the news might unveil one of the bits everyone will be talking about after Guardians of the Galaxy bows on August 1.

The rumblings come from Disney blog Stitch Kingdom, and though the details are vague, the mere mention of this cameo gives us goosebumps. Don't forget what James Gunn told us while on set: "There are a ton of characters from the comics in this movie in little tiny roles. The most Marvel characters that have ever been in one movie--I would imagine times four!"

According to the site, writer Steve Gerber and artist Val Mayerik and their creation Howard the Duck are credited in the final scroll of Guardians. Now, all that intimates is that the character is shown in some way. Maybe it's just a name drop or an image. Maybe on display in the Collector's collection? Or maybe it's a sight gag in which Rocket and Howard walk past each other, a cheeky way for Marvel to acknowledge its cinematic history with sarcastic talking animals?

Howard the Duck, whose comic series allowed Gerber (who passed away in 2008) to lampoon superhero comics and the '70s sociopolitical climate in equal measure, has long been a cult favorite with discerning Marvel fans. Most nonfans know the fowl-mouthed duck from his infamous 1986 bomb, which also happened to be the first Marvel feature film. A cameo in Guardians of the Galaxy would be the kind of cinematic career comeback unheard of outside of Quentin Tarantino's oeuvre.

We don't want to count our eggs before they hatch, but we would definitely be down for this.

Oh, and if you would like to know about Stan Lee, Nathan Fillion and Rob Zombie's cameos, Stitch Kingdom has that info as well.
