Lady Gaga and Prince May Be on 'The Great Gatsby' Soundtrack

Oct 15, 2012

Australian filmmaker Baz Luhrmann is known for his grandiose productions like Moulin Rouge!. His films are bold spectacles, swirling with bright costumes, colorful scenery and loud music that filters the film's story through a contemporary pop landscape. We don't expect his adaptation of F. Scott Fitzgerald's 1925 novel The Great Gatsby to be any different. The film's release date was recently moved to next year, and The Playlist has a possible further explanation as to why. It involves some pretty big names in the music industry.

We may be seeing the likes of legendary music stars Prince and Lady Gaga on Luhrmann's soundtrack for the film starring Leonardo DiCaprio, Tobey Maguire, Carey Mulligan, Joel Edgerton, Isla Fisher and Jason Clarke. While making the press rounds, Adelaide Clemens — who will star as Catherine Wilson, sister to Myrtle who was George's wife, and millionaire Tom Buchanan's mistress — revealed the news. "They have some new music that's going to be added to the film. Some pretty huge artists have approached Baz and are writing songs for the film, and I don't think Warner Bros. is going to turn down Prince and Lady Gaga knocking down your door. I don't know if I'm allowed to say that," she shared.

Lady Gaga seems like the perfect choice for a Luhrmann soundtrack, and Prince has experience with his own film and his latest collaboration, Happy Feet. We could also see Gaga starring in the film, onstage performing at one of Gatsby's extravagant parties. If the buzz is true, then this remake of the "great American novel," which has already been adapted five times, should prove to be as boisterous as ever.
