New Clothing Line Lets You Dress Like 'The Great Gatsby'

Apr 16, 2013

F. Scott Fitzgerald's Jazz Age classic The Great Gatsby depicts the extravagant parties and decadent lifestyles of its Roaring Twenties' characters. Every millionaire needs to dress the part, and since Baz Luhrmann's adaptation of Fitzgerald's novel is on the horizon (May 10), the clothier Brooks Brothers has unveiled its Gatsby-inspired line.

The company partnered with Luhrmann's costume designer, Catherine Martin, to create suits that mirror the ones stars Leonardo DiCaprio and Tobey Maguire wore in the film. The limited-edition line was heavily influenced by archived Brooks Brothers pieces — the company has been dressing people since 1818 and is the oldest men's clothing store in America. "Brooks Brothers is mentioned numerous times in Fitzgerald’s writings as a representation of the ultimate gentlemen’s purveyor of fine clothing to the American man of distinction. It is this most basic and fundamental connection that has made our collaboration so authentic," Martin said of the new line. Do these suits channel the "dreamlike world of pristine green lawns and lavish parties?"
