Movie trailers play an important role in how we view cinema, and they can be brilliant works of art in their own right. That's what the Golden Trailer Award recognizes — creativity and passion for movie trailers. What was the best film preview this year? Alfonso Cuarón's sci-fi spectacle Gravity won top honors at the ceremony. In case you've been living under a rock, we're talking about the trailer featuring Sandra Bullock as a medical engineer in space, drifting into the vast beyond. George Clooney plays the veteran astronaut who tries to calm the panicked doctor and talk her through to safety in the below clip, titled "Detached."
There are 16 categories at the Golden Trailer Awards. Other winners this year included The Hunger Games: Catching Fire for best action trailer. The ever-so-popular Frozen won best trailer for an animated or family film. The Conjuring took home best horror trailer, while Dallas Buyers Club was the best trailer for an indie flick. There were 75 winners in all. Really, the always overlong Oscars should be paying attention to this event, since the ceremony was 90 minutes long.
Revisit Gravity's trailer, which plays just as suspenseful as it did the fist time we set eyes on it.
