Bravo, Warner Bros. You put together a helluva trailer for the Godzilla remake. And not only is this just a great, enticing look at the film, but it's also keenly audience aware considering it knows none of us were really asking for another Godzilla remake. It knows that we all remember Roland Emmerich's 1998 film starring Matthew Broderick and a giant, CGI iguana. It knows we've been there and done that and don't really care to do it again.
And that's why it opens big and iconic in its own way right of the gate, promising that this is indeed unlike anything we've faced before. And soldiers doing a HALO jump out of an airplane to assault a giant monster attacking a city is indeed something we've never seen before.
Directed by Gareth Edwards (Monsters), here's the official synopsis and cast list:
An epic rebirth to Toho's iconic Godzilla, this spectacular adventure, from Warner Bros. Pictures and Legendary Pictures, pits the world's most famous monster against malevolent creatures who, bolstered by humanity's scientific arrogance, threaten our very existence.
Gareth Edwards directs "Godzilla," which stars Aaron Taylor-Johnson ("Kick-Ass"), Oscar® nominee Ken Watanabe ("The Last Samurai," "Inception"), Elizabeth Olsen ("Martha Marcy May Marlene"), Oscar® winner Juliette Binoche ("The English Patient," "Cosmopolis"), and Sally Hawkins ("Blue Jasmine"), with Oscar® nominee David Strathairn ("Good Night, and Good Luck.," "The Bourne Legacy") and Bryan Cranston ("Argo," TV's "Breaking Bad").
There's a whole lot of names involved there that have us quite excited for this when it hits theaters on May 16, 2014. What about you? Has that trailer cleared away any ill memories from the last Hollywood remake of this classic Japanese monster movie? Or are you still on the fence?
