Who you gonna call?
30 years after four nerdy dudes conquered a hoard of evil spirits invading Manhattan, four nerdy girls will attempt to do the same in a new reboot of Ghostbusters. Starring Melissa McCarthy, Kristen Wiig, Leslie Jones and Kate McKinnon (and Chris Hemsworth as their secretary), this newer, flashier version of Ghostbusters boasts upgraded effects and a new story, but even this first trailer teases some fun callbacks -- like a fresher and funkier version of the opening library sequence -- as well as the return of the ghost Slimer.
In addition to those nods, many castmembers of the original Ghostbusters will pop up in cameos, but the film is clearly saving those moments for later.
Check out the trailer below.
Looks fun, right? There seems to be a lot of ghosts in the film, and we like how they have the ability to possess humans in crazy ways. You'll remember the original touched on that, too (remember Gozer?). We don't get to see the main villain in the film, although he' is teased. We know his name is Rowan, and director Paul Feig has described him as an executed murderer who left behind a manifesto that's hit by a supercharged electrical storm. Once that happens, it unleashes hell upon the city. Can these women stop him before it's too late?
Those looking to dive deeper into the film can follow the mysterious url hidden in the trailer (see image below).
That'll take you to a viral site that includes a new featurette on the making of the movie.
Directed by Paul Feig (Bridesmaids, The Heat), Ghostbusters hits theaters on July 15.
What do you think of the first trailer? (Kate McKInnon is gonna steal every scene in this one, huh?)
